Even if you brush and floss regularly, you need to visit our office every six months for a thorough professional cleaning.
That’s because you can’t get rid of tartar when it forms. This yellow or brown substance is hardened plaque. Only your Hatfield dentist’s special tools can to do that. And you’ll want it removed – because it can lead to gum disease and receding gums if ignored.
Here’s what a typical checkup and cleaning entails …
1. Thorough examination. We will closely look at your gums and teeth for any signs of gum disease or cavities. We’ll also perform an oral cancer check and assess the mechanics of your jaw joint. We’ll let you know what we find to determine the best personalized approach for you.
2. Scaling. We’ll gently used our hand instrument to remove tartar and plaque from your teeth and below the gumline. If we discover you have periodontal disease, we will recommend treatment with a technique called root planing.
3. Polishing. Your hygienist will use an electric brush and polishing paste to remove surface stains from your teeth. The result: your teeth will be shiny, smooth, and you’ll feel the difference!
4. Flossing. Your hygienist will get in between your teeth to get rid of any residual bits of plaque or toothpaste that may be present.
We know that for some patients, it can be intimidating to undergo any dental procedure. But your Hatfield dentist’s team of warm, welcoming professionals will do everything possible to ensure your checkup and cleaning is painless and only takes as long as it must.
If it’s your first visit, it will take a bit longer than future appointments … but that’s just because we need to get to know you and your smile better.
Call us today to schedule an appointment and keep your smile and oral health in excellent shape.
